My Home: Laundry Room Part 1
Last week, I kicked off the beginning of my #HayHomeReno with my Laundry Room makeover. Am I absolutely out of my mind starting a renovation just 2 weeks before Christmas? Possibly. But when it comes to my own projects, it's usually a 'now or never' type of situation. With Baby #2 due in May, it's literally a race against the clock to get our house in order.
Currently the Laundry Room has been a catch-all for miscellaneous items and off-season storage. As a busy (growing) family, we wanted the Laundry Room to work for us, and not against us. Located just off of the Basement Family Room, it'll be a space for extra food & beverage storage during the holidays, as well as a transition area to the Guest Bathroom.
With a plan set in place, it was time to get the wheels in motion! By using readily available, stocked pieces from Ikea as well as adding a few pops of colour, this space should come together in no time!
DAY 1: BEFORE & DEMO
DAY 2: BUY, BUILD, PRIME!
FRAMING & DRYWALL: As a Designer, I try to avoid bulkheads whenever possible. However, due to some very unsightly wires, they were necessary in this case.
BUILD: Our Ikea cabinets are built & ready for installation.
FRAMING & DRYWALL: We also had to build out the wall to conceal the dryer vent. We debated stacking the Washer/Dryer, but keeping them side by side seemed more practical.
BUY: We saved big bucks by purchasing our fridge from a discount Scratch-And-Dent store. Gotta love a good deal!
DAY 3: BUILD, BUILD, BUILD ...AND WAIT.
Even little Joseph is getting a little anxious as we wait for the Plumber to hook up the sink, faucet & appliances. Ah, the old game of Hurry Up & Wait!
DAY 4: CABINET & LIGHTING INSTALLATION
This is when things start coming together, and we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.
All hands & paws on deck! With only tiling & accessorizing left to do, that finish line is closer than we think.
The Washer & Dryer are now installed! Look at all of that folding space!
Here's a little sneak peek of the sink area!
We are approaching the Finishing stage (backsplash tile, hardware, shelving & accessories) which is often times the most fun stage of a project. Be sure to check back to see the end result!
