Our Oak Park project is one of those projects that was tricky to pull off in an industry where modern aesthetic is all the rage. Having to design a space that has more traditional elements is something that follows the roots of Rebecca Hay Designs.

Curating elements, like woods, more traditional moldings, and vintage pieces and pairing them with fun wallpapers, light fixtures, and fabrics helps keep the overall look still feeling so fun and fresh, with a little twist of traditional and nautical. Bringing that cottage cozy to the city lifestyle makes you feel welcomed and warm when walking through each room.

Incorporating vintage pieces was a big part of what we envisioned for this project. We wanted to add those traditional elements and what better way to do that than to hunt down some beautiful consignment pieces that add that touch of tradition and whimsy. It was not just fun to go antiquing at the Aberfoyle Market or pop into a local consignment store to hunt for that perfect piece, but consignment shopping is a great way to be more sustainably minded.

Oak Park was one of our first big projects where we wanted to focus on becoming more sustainable within the industry. We wanted to help lower our carbon footprint and support our local vendors. We made a special trip to the Aberfoyle Market where we found some amazing pieces, like our beautiful wicker chairs for the living room, as well as shopped at our local consignment stores, like Of Things Past where we found our beautiful dresser and side chair for the Master Bedroom.
