Powder Rooms with a Punch

I always want every powder room to make a statement. Powder rooms are usually one of the smaller rooms in a home and so any amount of pattern or colour can be used without it becoming overwhelming. Using wallpaper is always a great choice - It adds a fun sophisticated vibe and turns an ordinary room into a little jewel box.

Powder room are one of my favourite rooms to design, because I can have some fun! Here are some of my favourite powder rooms:

An Oldie but a goodie, this powder room is in an Edwardian Detached home in the Humewood-Cedarvale area of Toronto. The orange/coral chevron wall paper from Kravet adds the perfect pop to an extremely small space.

The white deer head above the toilet adds the modern rustic pop while complimenting the wonky paper. The chalkboard sign with "Fred's" name on it adds an extra personalized touch while an old silver painted mirror was a hand me down that fit perfectly with the charm of this historic home.

Classic Powder Room

When our clients approached us to renovate their powder room, it was obvious that this space was in the dire need of a makeover. The space looked tired and the layout did not function well. We took our design inspiration from this powder room from the fabulous Schumacher wallpaper. The luxurious grasscloth texture and emerald green pop of colour was what I first fell in love with. Adding the wainscotting helped to keep the colour in check so it wasn’t too overwhelming. Finally adding the warm wood vanity and gold accents are balanced by the dark floors and mirror. This powder room is now a brilliant space that functions better for a growing family.

Muskoka Cottage

I designed this powder room with Stephen Taylor of Taylor Made Designs for a family cottage in Muskoka. The brand new tongue and groove wall paneling was fresh and white and a big window made the space feel bright and modern. So we found an old wooden chest of drawers and had it converted into a vanity with custom marble top and antique looking faucet. The vanity coupled with the wood window mirror bring that "cottagey" feel while having all the comforts of a fresh modern bathroom. I also love the old games/checkers board we found and hung as art above the toilet! If I could live year round in a cottage like this my life would be complete! :)

The Laurel

This powder room was located in the recently completed model home. Having free rein to design this room was amazing! We based our design off of the very fun and vibrant cactus wallpaper. Partnering this colourful wallpaper with the warm wood vanity really helped to make the room fun yet sophisticated. It is the perfect place to showcase personality, and sure to be a conversation started with guests.

This powder room went from Shabby to Chic. The space had low ceilings, poor lighting and not much going for it so we found this super cool cheetah themed wall paper in soft aqua and covered the walls. The room went from drab to fab instantly. We then took a nightstand we found at some design shop and had it retro-fitted to place a basin sink on top. We changed out the old boring hardware with sparkly glass knobs and added a curvy mirror with feminine flair. Now it's the perfect place to slip away and powder your nose!

This punchy powder room is right off the main entrance hall of a hip, elegant downtown condo. The wallpaper we chose has a little sparkle and lots of texture. We mirrored the pattern of the wallpaper in the floor tile. Adding wainscoting maintains elegance while also allowing your eye to rest from the wild pattern above .The chartreuse coloured mirror brings the monochromatic space to life.

The Boathouse

This one makes the cut because it's just so cool to have a powder room in a boathouse! Talk about serious convenience. Again it's a tiny tiny gem that is super function for guests or even little kids who just can't make it up to the main cottage in time to do their business.
